We just returned from Bicol, a six hour drive, my bottom is getting very sore but all for the cause, so I won't complain :)
What a joy I had in Bicol. The group that accompanied me from Open Door was 17 in all. These people are so wonderful. This trip actually came about because a woman, Jeannette, who cooks for Open Door, had attended the conference that I did in November and she said, Cindy, would you be able someday to come minister to the ladies from my village? I asked Nenette if that would be something we could do on this trip and BAM! It was done. The church had actually disbanded because the pastor had died and without a shepherd the people did not continue to come. So Open Door has hired a local pastor to take over this church, they are paying his salary and he and his wife are actually living in the church, there is a curtain up to hide the living area from the worship portion of this little church. Five youth, college age, from Open Door came along and let music, a nurse/teacher from Open Door gave out vitamins and pain relievers and checked blood pressure for the women and men who came. There were ladies from Open Door who joined us just to cook for all of us. The food is delicious!
So on Thursday morning we met for the first time at the church, there were about 60 to 80 children and 20 women. The youth met with the children and I met with the ladies. As my sister shared with you, 10 placed their faith in Christ for salvation. Praise the Lord! I was able to use the beautiful salvation bracelets and the Wordless Books that were made for this trip. The women and children each received one. I always encourage them to go home and tell the story to their families and lead them to Jesus!
We met Thursday morning and evening and Friday morning and then had a church service this morning as we would not be able to be there tomorrow. The pastor and associate pastor from Open Door were with us on this trip.
This mornings service was very emotional for all of us as we watched what the Lord was doing in the lives of these beautiful people. To think that the church was closed and now it is a sister church of Open Door, carrying the same name. And as I sat there I was crying to think that the Lord would use me to be a part of this wonderful event in the lives of so many. You as well are a huge part. The money for this trip South was totally funded by YOU. The food, the rental van, the gasoline, the rental of the house we stayed in, feeding 17 people 3 meals a day from Wednesday until today, we fed the people who came everyday a snack and drink and today we fed them lunch. Some received quilts, bracelet, books, bibles, medicines. How precious you are to me!
Sorry to be so lengthy but I have been away, so I needed to catch up!
By the way, the sun comes up hear at 5:00a.m. yikes!!!! That makes for a long day.
Tomorrow we will have worship here and the Youth are going to have a dinner, fundraiser tomorrow night as they are wanting to go back to Bicol and hold VBS in May. They are great young people, I really love Jesus in them!
Well, enough for now, I will send you a note tomorrow.
It is Saturday night at 10:00p.m. and I need to go to bed!
Love and appreciate you all so much
Cindy, Mom and MiMi
P.S. I sang this morning, the voice is back!
