Up this morning at 3:40 a.m. for fear that I would over sleep and be late when the vehicles left for the Southern Baptist Association for Open Door's 24 Anniversary. I believe I understood them to say that 11 churches were present and the theme was Worship and Missions Together. There was an American Missionary that has been here for 25 years who preached and I was asked to sing after he spoke. The people were so gracious, they applauded before I even began to sing! After singing we broke for lunch and the afternoon was to have churches perform some form of presentation in keeping with the theme. One of the judges didn't show up so I was asked to be a judge. That is where the title of the e-mail comes in, I felt like Simon or Paula as I watched each performance. It was a blast. You know how Paula would always sway back and forth and love all the acts? Well, that was me!!!!! But I did not show partiality to Open Door, actually it was easy because they were not even in the running! They only sang a hymn, now it was a lovely hymn but many of the churches performed dramas and they were very good. Although when we totaled up the scores the other judges gave way to many point for some of the groups! I had maybe a 50 and they had a 90 or 97, I was being honest, I think they were just being nice. But we all agreed on the Church that won! And I was chosen as the chairperson and got to announce the third, second and then, drum roll please, the first place church! I had a wonderful day. On the way home we went by the site of the Concert for tomorrow, oh my goodness, this is going to be huge. This community has over 30,000 people living in it. Now of course they all will not come but I am confident that we could have up to 1,000. Isn't He good? I am going to attach a picture of the young people from Music for Christ. I met a local pastor from that area this afternoon and he told me that he saw the hearts of these young people and wanted to join in what they were doing so the even is right next to a very small church and the pastor and other from his association will follow up with the people who come to Christ. Church in the morning, counseling a family that are having marital problems, prayerfully a nap and then off to the Concert.
Love you all, Cindy
